Grrrrr....

Yes, that's me growling and muttering things under my breath, because for some reason this giraffe is one of the most difficult things I've ever drawn / painted. Believe me, I spent hours on this today. I think it is the three dimensional feel in the center of his long face. That's where I'm really stuck. And I've tried to incorporate some greens in the shadows but that didn't work and got lost anyway. Well, sorry about the whining. I'll get it one way or the other.

He's looking pretty good from where I'm sitting, Deborah. One thing I have found that can help when it comes to those tricky areas is to turn the piece and reference image upside down. Then work that way for a bit....this stops the left brain interference which is often the reason we run into problems. I learned this trick from Betty Edwards' book, Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain. She explained that our analytical, left brain tries to tell us just how a piece should look rather than us just 'painting what we see'. I actually used this method once when, try as I might, I just couldn't get a petal at a awkward angle to look right.....worked like a charm.

Hey Deborah, hang in there! I think its coming along and you'll get it figured out! I know I go through the same thing :) I love the colors you've used. Serena's tip is a good one... I do that often, too.
