For a Friend

I've been really forgetful about taking pictures lately. I'll finish some things and rush them off to the gallery before even thinking about photographing them. Then they sell and I never get another chance. But here is one I remembered to record. I've never tried one of this type of necklace before, but I like the way it turned out. What do you think?

Pat A Cake

Pat a cake, pat a cake.....today as I was conditioning my clay, that rhyme kept going through my head. I was so excited about bringing my clay to the Blue Skies Gallery to demonstrate today. Another artist and I brought things we had made and lots of clay to work with. Right away we had a crowd, well....not a crowd, but just about everyone in the gallery came over to look. My sister suggested I put out a bowl full of beads and that proved to be a magnet for everyone. People couldn't keep their hands out of that bowl!

These are the miniatures I made for a show at the Charles Taylor Art Center and decided at the last minute not to enter them. They are just not my  best work, so I'll wait til next year and come up with a better idea.

Back to Colored Pencil

Yesterday I worked at Blue Skies Gallery and I took this little portrait to work on since my paints would be too messy. There is still a lot of work to do, but here it is so far. This is one of the adorable twin boys I'm painting. They just turned two. Cute, isn't he?

Freezing My Little Sketching Fingers Off

I had to leave my house today, but it would have been a good one to stay home by the fireplace, with a mug of hot chocolate (lots of marshmallows, please), and all of my art supplies laid out ready to go. Well, that will be tomorrow. I will not, for any reason, leave my cozy little house tomorrow.

Today I spent most of the day at Blue Skies Gallery. I always try to take something to work on when I'm there because the customers really like to see an artist working, and it's fun to answer their questions. This is what I worked on today, and it's not even half done. It's from a photo I have of my daughter when she was in first or second grade.

Raindrops Are Falling on My Head

Literally. When you are a wheelchair user, your hands are busy pushing the wheels, with no hand left for holding an umbrella. So when I was out this morning I did get a little wet, but luckily I was home for the deluge.

This was taken at Blue Skies Gallery a few weeks ago.

Miniatures by Hampton Roads Artists

Well, I just got back from the show and it was fabulous! It was held at the Charles Taylor Art Center in Hampton. There were many intriguing assemblages and mixed media works. I really need to go back and study some of them, because there were so many people there and I'm so short that I couldn't really see some of them. The work was really amazing, even better than I expected. I recognized a lot of names and saw several other artists I know from classes or being members of Blue Skies Gallery. It's really nice to feel like a part of the area artists, kind of like being in a club. This is what I always wanted, to feel like a real artist, even though I've always known I was, deep down inside. Now people recognize me and remember my work, and this was an invitational show, so....cool.

When Work is Not Work

Today was one of my 'work' days at Blue Skies Gallery, but that's not really what I was doing . Every time I am there I meet other artists and the customers are usually so interesting, too. It's a pleasure to be there, especially since we are encouraged to bring things to work on, so the customers can see us in action. So today this is what I did. These angels are going to be given away with Christmas purchases as a thank you to the customers. I'm going to add a little glitter ( have I ever mentioned how much I love glitter?), maybe sequins, ribbon, etc. They are each about six inches long. I plan on contributing a dozen.
