New Year, New Direction

Instead of a new year's resolution, I have made a new decision about where I'm taking my creative life or where it's taking me. For the last two years I've experimented with polymer clay, making lots of beads which are still piled up in ( or rolling around) my studio. Besides some jewelry I haven't produced much.

My big decision seems so obvious, but it took me two years to 'get it'. Ta da..........the big decision is to leave jewelry behind and just create. That's right. Just create. No matter where that takes me. Here is a partial picture of what I'm working on now.

So check back often. That's another part of my big decision....get back on the blogging track and post more often like I did two years ago. Happy new year!!

Fun. That's what I've been having in my studio ( well, in my dining room, too). My fun seems to spread quickly. I also, of course, have all kinds of clay in my kitchen along with drying paint brushes. I've been jumping from one project to another and it occurred to me that this might be the best way for me to work. Fifteen minutes on some clay, pop it in the oven, thirty minutes on a painting, thirty minutes on a colored pencil portrait. That portrait is a gift so I'll reveal it next weekend.

New Items and Some News

Yesterday the weather promised to be so bad that I didn't get to my art class, so nothing to show. But....I have been kind of playing around with some jewelry ideas and of course, the polymer clay. Above you can see some little hearts I've made to use for keychains. They are about 1 1/2 inches and very comfortable to hold. I'm using heavy sterling silver wire to make the loops.

This is a necklace I just finished. It's made of brass and some beautiful German glass beads I've had for a few years. The fairy charm is a little more than an inch long and there is a dangle with a gorgeous Swarovski crystal. The clasp is a heart. What fun to do this again. I haven't made jewelry for about two years. A friend of mine suggested I used the jewelry as an excuse not to make art. Well, I think she was right at that time. But now, well, you know I make art all the time. I guess jewelry can count as art, too, but painting is more important to me. 

As promised in the title of this post, I have some news. I've planned to open my Etsy shop again. I should have it open in about two weeks. At first I only plan to sell jewelry and as I get better at it, I'll sell my polymer clay beads and jewelry. My art will still be at the gallery and I'm planning on finding at least one other gallery, possibly in Richmond. When my Etsy shop opens, you will be the first to know.
