Behind the Scenes

Mixed Media on Birch Panel
12x12

I've been working on a few things that are all halfway finished, so there really hasn't been anything to post. But, above, is one of two panels that I've had so much fun preparing, but now I'm stuck and can't figure out what to do next. I think it was a big mistake to use stamps, and I'll never do that again, in this way. Live and learn.

Another project has been three Ampersand Claybord boxes that I've painted and prepared for finishing. This is the rough beginning of a mermaid which will go on the top of one box. Actually, her tail might wrap around the side. This has been fun.....something out of the ordinary. About ten years ago I played around with polymer clay, made some jewelry, but was too busy teaching to put much time in it.

As I was sitting there working I noticed the cup holding my brushes, right in front of my face, has a mermaid on it.

Have any of you ever worked with polymer clay? Did you make anything you can post on your blog? I'd love to see what other artists are doing with it.

I love polymer clay...don't have any projects around to show for it though. I love how the mermaid is evolving. I love love that cup you're holding.

Hi Deborah,
I've never worked with clay but I'm sure I'd love it! I really like the mermaid you're working on and can't wait to see the finished piece.
Obviously you know my woes about the painting I'm working on know so I'm relating to you and your birch piece..... I'm also stuck...lol!

Thanks for your encouragement, Sheila and Manon. And Manon, right now I'm about to just sling paint at another canvas that's driving me nuts.

In the top picture I would put some washes of colour over it to knock back some of the stamping. That way you will only have a hint of the stamping rather than it being so prominent.

As for polymer clay, I have never used it. I have used natural clay and love to throw large pots on the wheel.
